Shorts on the Green Short Film Festival was first run in 2007 at the Circle on Cavill outdoors precinct. The night originally started out as a platform for festival directors Rob Barbuto and Tin Pang to premiere their latest film on the big screen. Realising the fantastic opportunity that a venue such as Circle on Cavill provided, Rob and Tin decided to put on a film festival and thus Shorts on the Green was born. Despite being a huge success, the festival was unfortunately unable to attract sponsorship in the following years and was forced to go on hiatus.
In 2010, Surfers Paradise Alliance decided to take on the Shorts on the Green as part of the Surfers Paradise Festival. With a new sponsor on board, Shorts on the Green returned to bigger and better to its home in Circle on Cavill. The response to the return of the festival was very positive with a record number of entries being received. All in all around 120 films from all over Australia were considered for entry.
15 finalist films were selected and screened on the Circle on Cavill big screen on Saturday June 13th A massive crowd braved the cold winters night to come down and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the night. The night was hosted by radio personality Bree Amer and local band Shoebox kept the crowd entertained by performing during the breaks. The festival was a huge success and a great showcase of this states newest filmmaking talents. The full list of winners can be seen below.
